Elyssa specializes in instructing children starting as young as 3 years old. Motivating students at such young ages can be a challenge, so she utilizes educational games, songs and technique training exercises that emphasize a fun atmosphere while addressing key material. Elyssa believes that music should be fun and aim for lessons and practice to be just that. At the very core the fun of it is why she plays and she believes it is part of the purpose of music. Her approach is based on her background in Early Childhood Education, aspects of the Royal Conservatory of Canada, traditional fiddling pedagogy, and other teaching methods. She believes that each child is unique and tailors her pedagogical approach to each student as she gets to know them individually.

Elyssa developed and conducted the Chestermere High School String Ensemble for 3 years and coached with the Bow Valley Fiddlers for 2 years. She has played in the Calgary Zoo Orchestra and a baroque orchestra as well as a bluegrass band; The Flat Top Flyers.

She has studied under various teachers including David Herrington conductor of the Calgary Zoo Orchestra and quartet, Robert Penner of the Calgary Philharmonic orchestra. She is currently working towards the RCM ARCT Diploma.

Elyssa teaches offers lessons only in her studio, which is located near Commercial Drive and East 1st Avenue in Vancouver.
